The idea for building funnels started back when Russell was in college. He was recently married and as a college wrestler needed to earn money somehow.

Russell sold everything from shakes and supplements, to coaching, books, consulting, coupons, t-shirts, technology services, and software. He reached top ranking status in several network marketing companies, winning a Ferrari and generating 1.5 million leads in just six weeks.
The limitations and obstacles Russell encountered with the technology required to bring his sales funnels to life, became the birthplace of the idea for his software company, Click funnels. Together with his partner Todd Dickerson, Russell launched their sales funnel software in October 2014, and the company has grown to $100,000,000 and 55,000 customers in just three years.
So he started building and selling Potato Gun DVD’s online. He quickly realized that it cost a ton of money to hire designers, coders, copy writers and developers.
So, he decided to do it on his own. And ClickFunnels was born!

I remember we used to make potato guns
when I was in high school and that was
in the mid 80s so he was making potato
guns he’s a little younger than me but
and he had the idea to sell a DVD online
I think he sold it for about thirty
seven dollars and when he first started
doing it he was maybe making a sale a
day here there but that was his first
introduction into online selling and
building funnels and back then he had to
pay a lot of money to tech to you know
to people to build it and pay a lot of
money to copywriters thousands and
thousands of dollars now he’s basically
developed a software where you can build
a funnel in minutes with no tech
experience no copywriting experience
because they give you step by step all
the way how to do it and Russell also is
just a really truly genuine human being
he does a lot of giving back building
schools in Africa also a big project of
his is the Underground Railroad where
they help save children from humic
